The 185th (Cape Breton Highlanders) Battalion, CEF was a unit in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. Based in Broughton, Cape Breton, the unit began recruiting during the winter of 1915/16 throughout Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. After sailing to England in October 1916, the battalion was absorbed into the 17th Reserve Battalion on February 15, 1918. The 185th (Cape Breton Highlanders) Battalion, CEF had one officer commanding: Lieutenant-Colonel F. P. Day.

In 1920 the perpetuation of the battalion was assigned to the Cape Breton Highlanders.[1]
