The tournament was played on outdoor clay courts and was held from October 9 through October 15, 1972 in Boca Raton, United States. Chris Evert won the title but had to return the first place prize money of $25,000 as she was classified as an amateur.[1][3]

  • It was Evert's 5th title of the year and the 9th of her career.
