ACE Technical Charter High School, (commonly known as ACE TECH), is a public 4-year high school located in the Washington Park neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. It is operated by the Chicago Public Schools district. The name ACE stands for Architecture, Construction, and Engineering. The school opened in 2004. ACE Tech is housed in the former Mary Terrell Elementary School building, a Chicago public school which closed after the 2001-02 school year.[3]

Student Body[edit]

ACE Technical Charter High School (ACE Tech) serves approximately 500 students from Chicago’s Washington Park, Back of the Yards, Englewood and surrounding south side neighborhoods. ACE Tech was founded in 2004 to increase the number of urban, low-income, minority and female youth who enter the architecture, construction, and engineering industries. While many students are interested in these industries, ACE Tech caters to students with a wide variety of interests and aspirations. The student body demographic is 66% black and 28% Hispanic. 95% of students are low income and 15% are in special education programs.

ACE Tech is a lottery based school. 150 incoming freshmen students are accepted each year. There is no standard test or any placement exams required. All are welcome to apply. During the summer, many ACE Tech participate in summer internships. Some past participating organizations include University of Chicago Facilities Services, Rush University, F.H. Paschen, and Oakley Construction. School year internships are also welcome.

ACE TECH competes in the Chicago Public High School League, and is a member of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA). ACE TECH teams are stylized as the Bobcats.

Currently ACE TECH offers:

  • Boys' Baseball
  • Girls' and Boys' Basketball
  • Cheer & Pom-Pom
  • Girls' & Boys' Cross-Country
  • Girls' & Boys' Soccer
