Adamism is a fictional culture in Peter F. Hamilton's science fiction The Night's Dawn Trilogy series. Distinguishing characteristics of Adamism include the use of genetic engineering and nanotechnology and a cultural / religious opposition to the use of bitek (biotechnology) and especially the storage of memories and consciousness made possible by the affinity gene (a form of genetically added telepathy).

Technology
Nanonics
Nanonics (nanotechnology) is widely used within the adamist culture, with every adult having at least some nanotech installed. All computer and machinery control is achieved with a nanonic 'datavise'. A datavise between two (or more) people serves as a somewhat cruder analogue to the Edenist affinity.

Interfacing between nanonics and affinity is possible, and nanonics has been used on at least one occasion by a edenist habitat to store the memory and consciousness of an adamist who converted to Edenism at death.

Geneering
Genetic engineering is common among both the Adamist and Edenist cultures. Used for anything from increased lifespan to full combat cababilities (combined with weapons and tactical nanonics).

Sensevise
A sensevise recording can contain the complete sensory input a human being is capable of (sight, hearing, smell, touch, emotion, thoughts etc). Sensevise recordings are very frequently used in the Night's Dawn universe, most often by the media.

Religion
Unified Christian Church
In 2044, all the christian based religions merged into the Unified Christian Church. A few planets still conform (quietly) to the dictates of the old individual religions (e.g catholisism)
