The temple is a Krishna shrine, the installation of the Annapoorneshwari shrine was done by was built by Avittam thirunal Raja Raja Varma of Chirakkal Kovilakam.

The local folklore says Annapoorneshwari Devi came from Kashi with two other Devis' (Sree Chamundeswari amma (Kalarivathukkal Bhagavathy) and Tiruvarkadu Bhagavathy) and a boatman in a golden ship, got down at Azhi Theeram which is now known as Aazhiteeramthangi(Simply known "Ayiramthengu"). Amma asked the boat man to stay back, so that he could take her back to Kashi when she wanted, due to which the boat man stayed back and built a mosque which is now famous as the Olliangera Juma Masjid.[2] Famous vedic scholar Karakkad Krishnan Namboodiri ( known as vedavith) was a devotee of Annapoorneshwari devi.
