Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association or BGMEA (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ তৈরি পোশাক প্রস্তুত ও রপ্তানিকারক সমিতি) is a nationwide trade organization of garments manufacturers in Bangladesh and is located in the capital city of Dhaka.[2] It plays a pivotal role in the country's earning sector of foreign trades.[3][4]

History

BGMEA was founded in 1983.[5] BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology is owned by the trade body.[6] The trade body has a research wing.[7] BGMEA unveiled renewed vision with its new Nine Dot logo in July 5, 2022.[8] The first three dots emphasizes ‘reach’, second three dots emphasizes ‘transformation’ and the third three emphasizes ‘sustainability’.[9]

BGMEA Bhaban

BGMEA moved to its newly built headquarters in Uttara from its previous building which was demolished following the court order. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated the new building of BGMEA constructed in Uttara, Dhaka. [10] On 3 April 2011 Bangladesh High Court ordered the building to be demolished.
