Category:Mesoamericanists

This category and its subcategories contain articles relating to individual Mesoamericanists —academics and other scholars whose published works have made some notable contribution to the study of Mesoamerica and its historical cultures and civilizations. These contributions may be in any of a number of scholarly fields, such as epigraphy, archaeology, linguistics, history, anthropology, etc., and relate not only to the pre-Columbian era but to the subsequent conquest- and colonial-era experiences and achievements of Mesoamerican cultures.

As an overall "parent" category, it may be appropriate to further categorise individuals according to some combination of categories from:

• Mesoamericanists by nationality, and
• Mesaomericanists by field(s) of study (e.g. archaeologists, anthropologists, historians, linguists, art historians, etc.), and
• Mesoamericanists by period/century they were active (e.g. 16th century, 20th century), and
• by Mesoamerican culture(s) studied (e.g. Mayanists, Olmec scholars, Aztec scholars, etc.).

rather than simply categorising at this parent level.

It may be appropriate to categorise some individuals by more than one subcategory from each of these, if for example they are known for their research in more than one discipline/field, or have focussed on more than one culture.
