Chase Play is a timeshifting facility of DVD-RAM DVD recorders and many Personal video recorders.

It allows a user to simultaneously watch, stop or pause live television while continuing to record a program to its conclusion.

If a user is interrupted while watching television, they can use Chase Play to 'pause' the television until they can keep watching. Initiating 'Chase Play' means that the user no longer has to wait until the show is over before finding out what they have missed. When returning from the interruption, 'Chase Play' allows the user to start viewing the program from precisely where they left off. The recording device will continue to capture the program in 'real time' until instructed to stop.
