Dino Betti van der Noot (born 1936) is an Italian jazz composer.

Biography

Van der Noot was born in Rapallo. His mother and cousin were classical pianists. He studied at Scuola Musicale of Pavia, 1946–51; in 1959 studied privately in Milan and in the 1970's at Berklee College of Music. In Italy, he led combos from 1957 to 1960, but was not active in music in the 1960s.

Led amateur big band ’69-78; professional big band ’82. His big band musicians included: Luis Agudo, Franco Ambrosetti, Paul Bley, Sandro Cerino, Bob Cunningham, Famoudou Don Moye, Andrea Dulbecco, Bill Evans, David Friedman, Danny Gottlieb, Donald Harrison, Paul Motian, Giancarlo Schiaffini, Jonathan Scully, Steve Swallow, Ares Tavolazzi, John Taylor, Tiziano Tononi, Gianluigi Trovesi, Joyce Yuille, Vincenzo Zitello, and others ’05.[1] Betti van der Noot is chairman of B Communications, a prominent Milan Ad agency, and has composed many jingles. He led a big band in NYC, Sept. ’87. "His compositions are narratives rife with colour, ranging from the boldest hues to the most subtle and revealing a sensitive, inventive melodist and lapidarian master of orchestral skills" (from: Leonard Feather & Ira Gitler, The Biographical Encyclopedia of Jazz, Oxford University Press, New York, 1999, page 59).
