Eduardo Corrêa Riedel (born in 5 July 1969) is a Brazilian politician and businessman, affiliated to the Brazilian Social Democracy Party, was elected governor of Mato Grosso do Sul in the 2022 elections in Brazil.[1] Already held the position of Secretary of State for Infrastructure of Mato Grosso do Sul from February 22, 2022 to January 1, 2023.[2]

In 2022, he ran in state elections in Mato Grosso do Sul for governor with Barbosinha for vice governor.[3] On October 2, 2022, he had 361,981 votes (25.16%) and went to the second round with candidate Renan Contar.[4][5][6][7]

Career

Riedel was born in Rio de Janeiro on July 5, 1969, son of Seila Garcia Côrrea and Nelson Riedel.[8]

In 1995, he took over the management of the family's rural property in Maracaju, gaining experience in management. Since then, he has taken on management-related positions.[8]

In 2015, Riedel resigned from the position of president director of Famasul (2012-2014), taking over the head of the State Secretariat for Government and Strategic Management of Mato Grosso do Sul, in the government of Reinaldo Azambuja, a position in which he remained until 2021.[8][9]

During the Covid-19 pandemic, in 2020, the government of Mato Grosso do Sul, with the support of the Pan American Health Organization, created the Health and Safety Program in the Economy, which aimed to inform data and indicators to society, as well as developing more efficient actions to address the impacts of Covid-19 in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.[8]

To coordinate and manage this project, Governor Reinaldo Azambuja appointed in July 2021, Riedel as president of the Steering Committee of the Health and Safety Program for the Economy.

Candidate for the government of Mato Grosso do Sul

In 2022, he ran in state elections in Mato Grosso do Sul for governor with Barbosinha for vice governor.

On October 2, 2022, he had 361,981 votes (25.16%) and went to the second round with candidate Renan Contar.[10]

On October 30, 2022, he was elected governor with 808,210 votes (56.90%), leaving candidate Renan Contar with 612,113 votes (43.10%).[11]

His inauguration will take place on January 1, 2023.

Personal life

In 1994 he married Mônica Morais with whom he has two children: Marcela and Rafael.
