F1 Countdown, is a American television programme dedicated to the coverage of Formula One motor racing and is broadcast by the American broadcaster NBC from 2013 onwards. It is a live on-site pre-race show for all Formula One races televised on NBC Sports, NBC Sports Network and CNBC. It came as a result of NBC getting broadcast rights to F1 races.
The program is also available in high-definition on either NBC Sports, NBC Sports Network or CNBC. At F1 events, the program is always hosted by Leigh Diffey, Joining Diffey is former racing driver David Hobbs and former racing mechanic Steve Matchett.
History
On October 12, 2012, Speed, then owned by Fox Sports announced that it was unable to renew its contract to air Formula One racing on Speed after the conclusion of the 2012 season. Two days later, NBC announced that it had reached a new four-year deal to broadcast F1 races beginning in the 2013 season, with the majority of F1 Countdown to be broadcast by NBC Sports Network.[1][2]
