| Description |
English: A USAF decision to procure the Vought A-7 aircraft was the second instance in
the decade of the 1960s to buy a Navy aircraft. The aircraft was modified to meet Air Force requirements by replacing the original Pratt & Whitney TF30 engine with the Allison TF-41-A-1 turbofan, increasing power by 2,000 lb. thrust. Other changes included installation of a 20mm multi-barrel cannon, and advanced navigation/attack systems, heads-up display, and laser rangefinder. USAF S/N 75-393 is an A-7D-17-CV, one of 450 built by Ling-Temco Vought in Dallas, Texas. The aircraft was delivered to the 162nd Tactical Fighter Group (ANG), Tucson International Airport, Arizona in July 1976. It remained with this unit until flown to the museum on November 3, 1989. |
