| Description |
English: Alston Hall Adult Education College, Alston This was taken almost 40 years after my first photograph of it, and as before I was attending a music course (and the food was really excellent!). The hall was built in 1876, or soon afterwards, for John Mercer, a colliery owner. The architect was Alfred Darbyshire, and the style is Victorian neo-Gothic with some Tudor details. It is on a spur between two wooded valleys, and has a view over the Ribble valley to the ridge beyond. |
