Fair use rationale[edit]

The front cover of ABBA 1973 7" single "Another Town, Another Train", copyright Polar Music Record cover to illustrate the article about album Ring Ring, the ABBA discography, and the relevant period in the history of ABBA. Although the picture is subject to copyright I feel and assert that it is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:

• it is a low resolution copy of a single cover;
• it does not limit the copyright owner's rights to sell the single in any way;
• no free alternative is available;
• its use is commensurate with usage throughout discographies and album listings across the world wide web;
• its low resolution means copies could not be used to make illegal copies of the single artwork.

This image is of a cover of an audio recording, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the publisher of the work or the artist(s) which produced the recording or cover artwork in question. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of such covers solely to illustrate the audio recording in question, on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, qualifies as fair use under the copyright law of the United States.
