Description
English: Detail of a funeral hatchment of the Barbor family of Fremington House, North Devon, on the west wall of St Peter's parish church, Fremington. Display the arms of Barbor with six quarters: (See: Summers, Peter & Titterton, John, (eds.), Hatchments in Britain, Vol.7: Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Somerset; Phillimore Press, Chichester, Sussex, 1988, p.24, no.3)
  • 1st & 6th: Argent, two chevrons between three fleurs-de-lys gules (Barbor);
  • 2nd: Chequy argent and sable, a fesse gules (Acland);
  • 3rd: Argent, on a fesse wavy azure a lion passant or (Lovering of Bittadon, given incorrectly by Summers as Hussey) (field shown here as or with lion guardant);
  • 4th: Barry of eight azure and or, Poyntz of Bittadon, Devon, a difference of the arms of the senior family of Poyntz of Iron Acton in Gloucestershire, feudal barons of Curry Mallet in Somerset (Barry of eight or and gules);
  • 5th: Per pale gules and azure semée of crosses crosslet fitchée argent, a lion rampant or (Hutchinson)
