Description
English: Benjamin Crowninshield (1758–1836) was a member of the "Boston Brahmin" family that ran a shipping business in early Salem, Massachusetts. He fought and was wounded in the battle of Bunker Hill, and became commander of a privateer ship in the War of 1812. He was a member of the Salem East India Marine Society. He was captain of his cousin George's yacht Cleopatra's Barge on her trip to the Mediteranean in 1817. His cousin Benjamin Williams Crowninshield (1772–1851) was secretary of the Navy at the time.
