Summary

Description
English: Bristol Bath Road Locomotive Depot.
View SE from Temple Meads Station (Platform 12): the classic scene familiar to every railway enthusiast who stopped off at 'The Mead'. This was the principal Depot of the Great Western Bristol Division, coded 82A after Nationalisation: it had an allocation of 93 locomotives in 1950, virtually all devoted to passenger traffic, half of them 4-6-0s, most of the others 2-6-2Ts. (Freight work was handled by St Philip's Marsh just across the river, with 145 locomotives). Bath Road Depot was closed to Steam on 12/9/60 and rebuilt as a Diesel Depot, which lasted until 28/9/95. The photograph features numerous 4-6-0s, the two on the left being readily recognised as 'Castle's. Compare ST5972 : Bristol Bath Road Diesel Locomotive Depot.
