Summary

Description
English: Brumadinho dam "Barragem I". Cross section through the broken dam from the west to the east. The dam is based on soil, not on solid rock. The first dam (black) had been build 1976 with coarse rubbel from mining. In the following decades the dam had been hightend several times. Dam raisings 1 to 4 had been done with compacted soil, each additional small damm had contributed 5 - 8 m in hight. In later years the dam raisings had been done with dams build out of dried tailings. The final dam reached a hight of 86 m.

Deutsch: Brumadhino Rückhaltebecken "Barragem I". Querschnitt durch den zusammengebrochenen Staudamm von West nach Ost. Der Damm liegt auf dem Erdreich auf, nicht auf feststehendem Gestein. Der erste Damm (schwarz) wurde 1976 aus grobstückigem Abraum aus der Grube aufgeschüttet. In den folgenden Jahrzehnten wurde der Damm immer wieder erhöht, typischerweise durch weitere kleine Dämme mit jeweils 5-8m Höhe. Bei den Dammerhöhungen 1 bis 4 wurden kompaktierte Erde als Baumaterial verwendet, bei den Dammerhöhungen 5 bis 10 wurde getrockneter Bergbauabfall (tailings) verwendet. Abschließend erreichte der Damm eine Gesamthöhe von 86 m.
