In the late eighties, early nineties, General Motors was quite successful on the Taiwanese markets with Opel (Corsa B, Kadett E, Astra F) and Buick (Skylark), Pontiac (Sunbird) and Chevrolet (Cavalier, Corsica) compact cars. The Formosa brand, selling cars developed by GM Daewoo, failed to meet expectations. GM tried again with the locally-assembled Buick Excelle, a sedan based on the Daewoo Nubira/Lacetti and with a unique front and rear design for the Taiwanese market. The China-spec LaCrosse was also sold on the Taiwanese market, as well as the American Buick Rendezvous. Unlike in China, the Buick Excelle was a sales flop.
