English: Carghidown Castle - promontory fort This was investigated for its archaeological interest in 2003, a report being available at http://www.aocarchaeology.net/Projects/Carghidown/carghidown.htm. On the whole, this one was not an obvious defensive site, but excavations have unearthed the remains of a series of roundhouses, showing that it was certainly occupied as a dwelling-place. |
