Summary

Description
English: Scan of old postcard. On postcard is a painting of Doornfontein Siemert Road in Johannesburg, which depicts two horse and buggies on the road, people walking to the right of the street, and buildings, including the New Synagogue and Queen Victoria Maternity Home. There are power or telephone lines depicted on the left of the street, a mountain visible in the back, and the buildings on the right. There is text overlaid on the painting. At the top in red text it reads "Johannesburg - Doornfontein Siemert Road (showing the New Synagogue and Queen Victoria Maternity Home)". Along the left side, also in red, it reads, "Braune and Levy, Johannesburg. No. 1042." The painting itself dates from between 1904-1906. The date of publication of the postcard is unknown. The postcard shows sign of age and wear, including circular indentations in the top left, yellowing, and worn corners.

Public domain
The copyright situation of this work is theoretically uncertain, because in the country of origin copyright lasts 50 years after the death of the author, and the date of the author's death is unknown. However, the date of creation of the work was over 100 years ago, and it is thus a reasonable assumption that the copyright has expired (see here for the community discussion). Do not use this template if the date of death of the author is known.
You must also include a United States public domain tag to indicate why this work is in the public domain in the United States. Note that this work might not be in the public domain in countries that do not apply the rule of the shorter term and have copyright terms longer than life of the author plus 50 years. In particular, Mexico is 100 years, Jamaica is 95 years, Colombia is 80 years, Guatemala and Samoa are 75 years, Switzerland and the United States are 70 years, and Venezuela is 60 years.
