English: Diagram of day length affecting the phase relation between the two oscillators E and M and an actogram of a diurnal animal’s activity. Less light (short day) results in overlap of the two oscillators’ outputs, with a small phase difference, and thus, one bout of activity. More light (long day) results in the splitting of activity into two bouts with a large phase difference. |
