Summary

Description Ellis Island- New Ferry Building built in1936 in thee Art deco era by Works Progress Administration to replace a ferry that had earlier been lost to fire. The high central pavilion topped with a copper-clad cupola stands between two single-story wings in a brick fireproof building at the foot of the ferry basin on what is called the "hyphen", which connected the two parts of the island. The central hall acted as waiting room, with one wing used by the customs service and the other as kitchen and lunchroom.
