Description

Heathfield School is a private school for girls. It was founded in 1900 in a house in College Road, Harrow. There were then only thirty pupils but, over the years, pupil numbers increased and the house was progressively extended. But, in 1982, it became obvious that larger premises were required. A move was made to the building in Pinner shown in the photo that had previousl been a state school. The College Road premises were demolished to make way for St Ann's Shopping Centre.

The Pinner establishment had been founded in 1937 as Pinner County Grammar School. It later became Pinner Junior College and finally Pinner Sixth Form College. Famous Pinner County pupils included Reg Dwight (aka Elton John) Simon Le Bon, Ron Goodwin and Gordon Beck all famous musicians, although the school was not especially music focussed. The actor Tony Jay was a pupil in the early 1940s, as were writers Bill Gunston and Wendy Holden (aka Taylor Holden), writer and broadcaster Gay Search and footballer David Jones. An open day for former Pinner students is held every year on the first Saturday after the first bank holiday in May.
