Summary
[edit]Description | Photograph of traditional hunters in Jeju Island, South Korea, probably early twentieth century. |
---|---|
Author or copyright owner |
Not mentioned in source, a South Korean government site; probably a colonial Japanese photographer |
Source (WP:NFCC#4) | Original publication: Not mentioned in source, a South Korean government site Immediate source: http://contents.history.go.kr/front/km/print.do?levelId=km_040_0060_0010&whereStr= |
Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) | Life replacement narratives |
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | The association between the Menggam bon-puri narrative and traditional hunters on Jeju is highly important to a proper understanding of the myth. This image will illustrate the kind of person that Saman in the narrative would have been. |
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1) |
No traditional hunters exist on the island any more, so new free illustrations are impossible. A fairly exhaustive search online yielded no other image of traditional Jeju hunters. |
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) | Low resolution, will be used only in the life replacement narratives article and (perhaps in the future) directly related articles such as History of hunting in Korea. |
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2) |
It is very unlikely that its owner, who has almost certainly been dead for generations, would have any commercial interests in this image. |
Other information | Author may have died more than seventy years ago, but I could find no information about the photographer online. In fact I find it extremely likely that copyright has already expired (backed up by the circumstantial evidence that the government site seems to be using it without attribution), but since no background information about the file exists I am not able to upload it to Commons. |
