The planes photographed are Japanese Kamikaze "VAL" dive bombers, the one in the foreground has a red circle, the emblem of imperial Japan on its left wing in the bottom center of the photo, and you can see the pilot in the back of the canopy. Another takes off from a runway, closer to photo center. Circa 1944-45 |
