Summary

KAWAGUCHI BRIGADE HEADQUARTERS landed near Tasimboko from destroyers on 6 September, 1942. Forty-eight hours later, its base was attacked and destroyed by the 1st Raider Battalion. This picture, with mustachio-ed Major General Kawaguchi in center, was probably taken in the Philippines (http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USMC/USMC-M-Guadalcanal/USMC-M-Guadalcanal-5.html) or in Palau (Michael Smith, Bloody Ridge, the Battle that Saved Guadalcanal, p. 88.), shortly before the unit shipped out to Guadalcanal. Taken on 6 September 1942
