Description
English: Kernos, Early Cycladic III–Middle Cycladic I (Phylakopi I-II, ca. 2000 BC). Found in a tomb in Melos.
Français : Kernos, Cycladique Ancien III-Cycladique Moyen II (v. 2000 av. J.-C.). Découvert dans une tombe à Mélos.
Italiano: Antico kernos risalente al II millennio a.C., rinvenuto in una tomba presso Milo è oggi conservato al Museo del Louvre di Parigi. In ambito efesino, l'uso di questo vaso per offerte multiple era cultuale. In ogni piccolo recipiente (kotyliskoi) venivano deposti semi e granaglie per commemorare il dono dell'agricoltura da parte di Demetra. Nei Deipnosophistai (Δειπνοσoφισταί, XI, 56, 478d) di Ateneo, che qui cita il Sulla pelle sacra a Zeus di Polemone di Ilio, ne viene precisato il contenuto: foglie di ormino, teste bianche di papavero, grani di frumento e di orzo, piselli, grani di veccia e di rubiglia, lenticchie, fave, grani di spelta, avena, frutta (fichi?) conservata (palathion), miele, olio vino, latte e lana di pecora non lavata. Colui che portava il kernos (kernophorein) ne assaggiava.
