La-33: a brief story of a tasty idea

Strange but true: one of the most extroverted and happiest salsa bands in the World. La-33 was born in the traditional borough of Teusaquillo in Bogotá, Colombia. Their headquarters are located on the 33rd street, where San Juan’s Convent was located.

Naturally, the prayers were replaced with a constant turmoil and the weak 'Hallelujahs' gave way to a new sound beat: the Salsa.

La-33 is a musical idea developed by the brothers Sergio and Santiago Mejía, whom in the year 2002 began to shape it in what we know today: a salsa style inspired by the typical New Yorker Salsa band line up including piano, bass, conga, timbals, bongos, saxophone, trumpet, trombones and three lead singers.

Their sound owes its quality to Salsa Masters such as Larry Harlow, but also echoes can be heard from Charlie Palmieri and Lucho Bermúdez.

Thanks to the musical excellence and their powerful live performances, La-33 has proudly come to share the stage with figures like Henry Fiol, Willie Colon, Ismael Miranda, Cheo Feliciano, Chucho Valdes, Los Van Van, Sargento Garcia, Kinky and The Wailers, etc.

La-33 is a registered trademark where the important thing is not the business but the music.
