Thing-in-itself, installation de Hu Yaolin, 2013 Bois sculpté

Cette installation de l'artiste chinois Hu Yaolin utilise des éléments d'une maison traditionnelle chinoise ancienne de style Hui (style développé lors des Dynasties Song et Ming / Huizhou). En prenant cet exemple particulier, l'oeuvre interroge le visiteur sur les relations entre l'art d'aujourd'hui, les nouveaux espaces urbains et la tradition architecturale des villes d'autrefois.

Selon le cartel signé par le commissaire Wang Chunchen, un des buts de cette installation est aussi de montrer au monde que les chinois conservent et s'intéressent à leur patrimoine architectural traditionnel malgré le développement économique très rapide que connait ce pays.

La morphologie de ce type d'édifices avec son dôme et son puits de lumière ressemble à celle de certains bâtiments de la tradition romaine ou italienne qui ont été au cœur des pratiques constructives pendant des siècles tant en Chine que dans le sud de l'Europe.
