Summary

Description
English: Numismatic collection conserved at MNAC in Barcelona. The collection of the Numismatic Cabinet of Catalonia, open to consultation by researchers, is formed by over 135,000 pieces. The principal numismatic series are represented here, with coins dating from the 6th century BC to the present day, as well as medals, valuable paper, tokens, monetary weights, scales, dies, decorations and insignia. Of all this wealth of material, the most important and emblematic series are without doubt the Catalan ones. They include extremely rare pieces, such as the first silver coins ever struck in the Iberian Peninsula by the Greeks of Emporion, the issues of the Catalan counties, those of the 17th-century Reapers’ War, those of the Napoleonic invasion and the bank notes issued by local councils in Catalonia during the Civil War of 1936-1939
