Description
English: Block and tackle were used to hoist the sleds (called "go-devils") or wagons carrying the bark of Tanbark trees down a steep portion of Palo Colorado Road in Big Sur, California during the late 1800s. One of the pulleys is mounted to a beam supporting a row of mailboxes at the top of "The Hoist".
