Summary
| Description |
English: (1 in a multiple-picture set) Randsburg is my favorite ghost town in the west. It sprang up after gold was discovered there in 1895, and began to empty out in the 1940s. As you can see from this set of pictures, taken over a span of 10 years, it does not change much with time. A few people still live there, but most of the buildings are abandoned. Some of the commercial buildings are open to sell antiques and refreshments to travelers who venture off Hwy 395 northwest of Barstow. This is the road into town showing the remains of the huge Yellow Astor gold mining operation above. |
