Summary

Description
English: Building in Shangai seen September 29, 2002.

"Name that style" Top - Mayan Step Pyramid. Below that - World War II German submarine pens built on the French coast. Over a Greek temple of sooty dark stone with romanesque arches on the sides. Below, some edging looks like something found on furniture topping an oversized breakfront china cabinet, so this portion is in the postmodern style.

While most modern buildings in Shanghai show a either a light hearted playfulness or a refined elegance in their style, this building was just awful in its crushing oppressiveness.
