This bell-cot is stone, about 5 1/2 feet tall. The bell on top is called the Great Matthew. It was originally cast in 1870, and then recast in 1888 to its present size of 1500 pounds. The cathedral relocated to its present site, where the existing bell tower was too small to hold the immense bell.
On the front of this bell-cot is a plaque commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Diocese of Dallas, which was 1899. On the reverse side is the cornerstone of a previous location of the cathedral. The cornerstone is from 1893.
This bell is pealed for regular worship services and tolled for funerals. Despite its size, it is well balanced and can be rung even by children.

This is my photograph that I took and you are welcome to it.
