Summary

Description
English: The Church of St Martin, Waithe The church of St Martin has a Norman tower, which was all that remained of the church in the early 1860s. The Haigh family, many of whose remains were moved here from Harrogate in 1862, took over the Grainsby estate and with the direction of Fowler, rebuilt the church partly as a mausoleum. The interior was once described as resembling a Victorian loo. The medieval churchyard cross is a listed monument. Not far away from the church are rows of poplars planted in the 1940s for sale to Bryant & May for matchsticks, but were never needed.
