| Description |
English: October 2013 the ability of a Florida Torreya to bear both male and female cones on the same tree was documented at the home of A.J. Bullard in Mt. Olive, NC. Here Bullard compares 3 branchlets, all growing one of his two horticultural plantings. From top to bottom: female cone-buds always near the tip; a series of male cone-buds along the length of a branchlet, and a pair of vegetative buds at the branchlet's tip. Notice that the female buds are the largest and most angular; the male buds are most numerous in a series; and the vegetative buds are the scaliest (least smooth).
