Photograph of a herbarium specimen taken through a dissecting microscope (x40) showing dispersed areoles and nearly black apothecia.   (medulla KC+ pink, C+ red).

This herbariuim specimen of Trapelia involuta was growing on a small, flat, sandstone rock along the trail up Black Mountain, just S of Tunk Lake, NE of Ellsworth in Hancock County, Maine, USA (Lat. 44o35' N,   Long. 68o06' W,   elevation 200 meters).

Collected and identified by E.C. Uebel (No. U-574-1, 11 Jul 2005).
