Alle finestre e lungo le scale di questo palazzo il XXIII Aprile MCMXLIV cinquanta pendenti salme di martiri mostrarono alla città inorridita la ferocia dell’irato germanico tiranno ciecamente sfogata su uomini di liberi sensi
inermi prigionieri in sue mani. A perpetuo ricordo dei sacrificati pose il Comune – XXIII Aprile MCMXLVIIItaliano: Ostaggi impiccati dai tedeschi il 23 aprile 1944 in via Ghega a Trieste in segno di rappresaglia per l'attentato, avvenuto il 22 aprile, compiuto nella mensa militare Deutsches Soldatenheim e che provocò la morte di 5 militari tedeschi:
