Summary

Description
English: The bow of this Panamanian tugboat is outfitted with an assortment of lines or ropes deployed when helping maneuver ships. Deck fittings shown here for controlling lines include:
  • "Bull nose" located on the foremost portion of the bow through which a head line is led.
  • "H-bitt" used to secure a line that is attached to another vessel during towing operations.
  • Capstan: a vertical-mounted cylinder that is powered by a motor causing it to rotate. Deckhands coil mooring or tow lines around the capstan during operation so that slack is taken up and tension is applied to the rope.
