Summary
| Description |
Photograph taken by me in 2004. This house was built for Charles Hazlehurst of Hazlehurst & Sons, soap and alkali manufacturers. After Hazlehurst moved to Halton Grange, Waterloo House was bought by the Runcorn Improvement Commissioners with the intention of turning it into a hospital. In 1883 it was converted into Runcorn's second town hall and free public library by architect James Wilding. In 1906 the library was extended by Wilding with a grant from Andrew Carnegie. It ceased to be a town hall in 1932 and part of the building was later used as a community centre. |
