Summary

Description One of six North American YA-5C (A-5B) Vigilante bombers (BuNos 149300-149305). As the nuclear deterrent was taken over by the U.S. Navy's ballistic missile submarines the A-5 nuclear bomber was new, but already obsolete by 1963. It was decided to convert the aircraft as a reconnaissance platform, which was designated RA-5C. Many A-5A and all YA-5C were converted as RA-5Cs, besides the new ones built.
