White House claims vs. the law[edit]

I find it interesting that the official caption attached to the picture by the White House says:

"This official White House photograph is being made available only for publication by news organizations and/or for personal use printing by the subject(s) of the photograph. The photograph may not be manipulated in any way and may not be used in commercial or political materials, advertisements, emails, products, promotions that in any way suggests approval or endorsement of the President, the First Family, or the White House."

Meanwhile the Wikimedia copyright notice correctly says:

"This image is a work of an employee of the Executive Office of the President of the United States, taken or made during the course of the person's official duties. As a work of the U.S. federal government, the image is in the public domain."

Being in the public domain, anybody may manipulate and use the photo in any way they please, and the White House can do nothing about it, thereby calling the caption into serious question. —Blanchette (talk) 06:06, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
