Grace, photograph by Eric Enstrom, 1918.
Grace is a 1918 photograph by Eric Enstrom. It depicts an elderly man, Charles Wilden, with hands folded, saying a prayer over a table with a simple meal. It was created in Bovey, Minnesota. The photo was originally taken in black-and-white, but was colorized by hand by Enstrom's daughter, Rhoda Nyberg. It was this colorized version which attained widespread distribution.[1] In 2002, an act of the Minnesota State Legislature established it as the state photograph.[2] The Grace photograph is featured on road signs in Bovey.
A similar picture featuring an elder woman praying at a table photographed by Jack Garren and called Gratitude is often paired with "Grace" as an inspirational "Grace and Gratitude" diptych.[citation needed]
