Major General (retd.) Harkirat Singh is an ex-officer of the Indian Army. Singh is notable as the first commander of the IPKF during its deployment in Sri Lanka in 1987.[1] He is an officer who has always stood up for what is right and true.[citation needed] He has written a book on his experiences in Sri Lanka called Intervention in Sri Lanka.[citation needed] He was always a skilled individual, both in training exercises and real combat.[citation needed] Due to his talent he was promoted to major general.[citation needed]
