The pool, which was partially funded by the UK's en:National Lottery, is 50m long, but features a moving barrier (which is shown deployed in the photograph) allowing the pool to be split into two 25m zones. The zone nearer to the camera also has a movable floor, which has been raised to make that zone only 1.2m deep (while the far end remains at the pool's natural depth of 2.0m).
Since it opened in en:2001, the pool has been used for training during the Scottish national swimming team's preparation for the en:2002 Commonwealth Games, and by the Scottish rugby team.
