Summary

Description The site of the 1962 archaeological dig which unearthed the remains of the original John Deere blacksmith shop as well as the remains of a later 19th century home built on the site. Note the brick iron smelting furnace in the middle. The dig unearthed numerous artifacts. John Deere Historic Site (John Deere House & Shop) - Grand Detour, Illinois, United States. U.S. National Register of Historic Places, U.S. National Historic Landmark.
