DescriptionVariegated Laughing Thrush I IMG 7272.jpg
English: Variegated Laughingthrush Garrulax variegatus in Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh, India. Taken at Biskeri (11000 ft.) on 12/5/07 during Sar Pass trek in Himachal. It's one of the highest altitude Laughing Thrushes with its range upto 3800 m from 1800 m during summer breeding period. It has a far-reaching & unmistakable loud musical whistles as weet-a-woo-weer, which is very pleasing to the ears. It inhabits dense undergrowths of forests of Fir, Birch, Rhododendrons etc. It's a great skulker & very difficult to take a picture of it. Eats mainly insects, berries & fruits. Seen here possibly on a branch of West Himalayan Fir (Pindrow Fir- Abies pindrow).
