James Stuart, 3rd Earl of Moray (1581[1] – 6 August 1638) was the son of James Stewart, 2nd Earl of Moray and Elizabeth Stuart, 2nd Countess of Moray.

He married Lady Anne Gordon, daughter of George Gordon, 1st Marquess of Huntly and Lady Henrietta Stuart, on 2 October 1607 (contract). He inherited the title Earl of Moray when his father was murdered by his future father-in-law in 1592. He was responsible for completing Castle Stuart on the banks of the Moray Firth.[2]

He died in 1638 and his title passed to his son, James. His daughter Lady Henrietta Stuart married in 1662 Sir Hugh Campbell of Cawdor, elder (? - 11 March 1716), Knighted in 1660, and had issue.
