Kawauchi, Fukushima
Template:Infobox City Japan Kawauchi (川内村, Kawauchi-mura) is a village located in Futaba District, Fukushima, Japan.
As of 2003, the village has an estimated population of 3,203 and a density of 16.23 persons per km². The total area is 197.38 km².
North of Kawauchi, there is at 37°22′53″N 140°48′16″E / 37.38139°N 140.80444°E a substation of Kita–Iwaki powerline, a 500 kV-line already designed for future 1100 kV operation.
2011 Tōhoku earthquake and subsequent nuclear accidents
On Friday, March 11th of 2011, the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami occurred off the coast of Fukushima and Miyagi Prefectures. Kawauchi was greatly affected, with many buildings sustaining moderate damage to their exteriors and great disorder and chaos inside their interiors. Though Kawauchi was safe from the tsunami that occurred shortly after, the village had to be evacuated after it was determined that the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant was facing a meltdown crisis.
On 1 April 2012 the evacuation orders for the villages Kawauchi and Tamura were lifted. [1]
